Vintage 14 Italian Onyx/Marble Brass Carousel Music Box CigaretteHolderGVC
Swiss Musical movement coupled with Italian craftsmanship are combined to make this lovely automated music box that has 6 compartments that open and close as the music plays The Blue Danube... Tales from the Vienna Woods. The piece is made of an Italian green marble with metal accents made to look like aged silver or brass. I believe that the bottom, lighter green part may be onyx....
If not, it is marble. On top There is a figurine with a bow and arrow, so the figure may represent Cupid. The feet and the figurine are brass.
As the doors open, you can see a Lyre in the center. The inside of each door has a cylindrical green velveteen lined compartment that could be used to store lipstick. Cigarettes or any variety of small things. The music box is wound on the bottom and there is a push button on the side to start the movement.
It stays open for a 18-19 seconds which allows for the user to get a cigarette and then automatically closes. The movement is made by Reuge, the master of mechanical music. The bottom has a sticker indicating that it was made in Italy with the Swiss Reuge Movement. It also lists the two songs it plays. Excellent condition with a small fleabite chips as can be seen in the last four photographs. The first two photographs shows the imperfections on the top dome, the second shows a minor imperfection on one of the doors, and the last shows a small chip on the botton section. The doors all open, rotate, and close smoothly. Measures approximately 14 tall and 7 diameter. Great gift or keepsake to pass down to the next generation.
