This is a Reuge music box handmade in Sainte Croix Switzerland. I believe the wood is maple. The cover has a floral inlay. The mechanism which plays La Boheme is activated by sliding the lyre on the front of the box in order to move an inside lever. It plays only one song and is 50 notes.
The inscription on the underside is from the person who gifted it to my family member in 1973. Because my family member worked at the former Musical Wonder House in Wiscasset, Maine which displayed antique and vintage mechanisms, I'm assuming this box was made before 1973. Dimensions are 6 3/4 " wide, 4 " deep and 2 3/4 high. On the back of the label in the photo is a marking "4287A"440.
