The company is famous for pocket watches, music boxes and mechanical pieces such as the movement of this music box. Some of these pieces are very collectable and valuable. This piece has a 50 note mechanism and plays 4 songs as listed on the label on this box.
This was innovative at a time when most music boxes could only play one. The songs March of the Toy Soldiers, Waltz of the Flowers, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Serenade were composed by Pyotr llyich Tchaikovsky for the ballet The Nutcracker which was first performed in 1892. This piece has some minor wear and tear, some scuffing, and a missing covered button on the top outside of the box (see photo). The musical works are in very good condition and the each piece plays beautifully. Origin: Sainte-Croix, Switzerland Company: Reuge Switzerland.
