Reuge Mirror Music Box DANSEURS 1777 SERENADE & MINUET Electric AS IS

This is a rare, Reuge (Mirror) Miroir Magique music box. Titled: "DANSEURS 1777 - SERENADE & MINUET" CH 2/50 Electric. It was made in Switzerland. The box measures Approximately 12" x 10" x 9.

The box is a recent to the market find. It is part of an estate of two antique dealers in the NE Ohio area. The box features a mirror incased in a gold frame. Behind the curtains which are drawn to the sides, are two couples dancing with a mirror effect behind them to give the illusion of a full ballroom. These dolls were made by hand by Madame Marthe Phillaparte in Paris reflecting costuming of dancers of 1780.

The tiny flowers are reported to be from her own garden. Their handmade costumes, typical of the 1700's, are done in period silk with real dried flowers. On the the front of the gold leaf frame is a small brass plaque with the inscription "Danseaurs 1755". One button turns on the light that illuminates the box showing the dancers and the other button starts the music and dancing. The illumination is in full working order.

I have not investigated the box further to see whether or not the music box feature can be repaired. The box looks to be fully intact and this many be an easy fix. If the music box was functioning, it would feature two songs using a 50 note Reuge Swiss mechanism. The dancers are designed to twirl at different timing and their feet move as if dancing. The music box and dancing feature is not currently working.

I have not opened the case or attempted to have it repaired. The top curved portion of the music box and back has some spotting and wear. Please see photos for details. PLEASE MESSAGE ME FOR MORE INFORMATION.
