Rare Vintage 1940s Swiss REUGE Lipstick/Cigarette Holder Carousel Music Box
You are looking at a Rare Vintage 1940s Swiss REUGE Lipstick/Cigarette Holder Carousel Music Box. Very elegant black Bakelite piece with gold scroll work. The musical mechanism was made by REUGE in Switzerland. The box itself has something written in German inside and was thus probably also made in Switzerland, Germany or Austria.
The music (waltz) plays beautifully, the carousel doors revolve open to reveal small compartments on each door that can hold lipsticks, dried flowers, cigarettes or cinnamon sticks for afternoon tea. The wind-up knob is on the base and the mechanism is activated by the push button on top of the music box. The musical movement is in very good working condition and the doors open and close but get stuck sometimes. Probably some of the parts need some oil.
No chips or major damage, one crack on one of the side panels (see picture 6). Measures approximately: 7 1/2" high X 6" in diameter. Lovely to keep and display; to use, to gift someone special or keep with your treasured collection!
