The cylinder musical movement was invented in 1796 and for the first time people could listen to mechanically reproduced music in their own homes. Musical movements came long before the invention of the phonograph back in 1877. Forward to the 21st century and you'll find that the world surrounding musical movements still inspires both the young and old.

Each movement was made in Switzerland by music box craftsman. The REUGE company has been making music boxes for well over 100 years. I include link address below to a video showing the attention to detail it takes to make these movements today. Note that video has 18 note movements that have some plastic parts.

My mechanisms are made of metal only but it is very interesting to see the process to make these movements. Each 18 note movement includes.

(1) 18 note mechanical movement. (2) 1/4 m3 10mm screws. Playing time: 17 seconds (full rotation of cylinder) / app 3 minutes per full winding, Movements play continuously till spring runs down. Dimensions: 2" L x 1.75" W x.

Screw holes for typical installation are 1 3/4 apart, there is an another optional hole for installation. Manufactured by Sainte Croix, Switzerland. New old stock, these have never been installed in a music box. On bulk orders, we offer a mechanical stop attachment for an additional 1.00 per movement. Simple installation has movement play until spring winds down. Most likely, you will not need a mechanical stop attachment unless the movement you are replacing had a stop feature already.

Even then you could go without stop mechanism. If movement is the exact same, and you want to reuse your stop mechanism, be sure that both musical comb screws are tight and then LOOSEN ONLY THE SINGLE SCREW CLOSEST TO SPINNING GOVERNOR FAN TO REMOVE/INSERT THE STOP MECHANISM "E-SHAPED" FOOT THEN RE-TIGHTEN THE SCREW TO SECURE THE COMB.

Never undue both comb screws... Re-aligning it perfectly is tricky... So best you don't do that.
